Java Engineer

McKay Brothers is a ten-year old company that provides telecommunications and data services to firms trading in global financial markets. We have retained our spirit of a bootstrapped start-up even as we have grown into an industry leader serving a roster of very sophisticated clients.

There is an immediate opening for a Java Engineer at the company's U.S. headquarters in Oakland, California. This position currently requires a hybrid work schedule with 3 days in the Oakland office per week.

Responsibilities:

  • 4+ years of experience using Java 8 or above
  • 3+ years of experience using Javascript, HTML and CSS, ideally using Bootstrap
  • Working knowledge of messaging formats such as JSON, XML and Protobufs
  • In-depth experience using relational databases like Postgres, ideally using Hibernate
  • Web service and RESTful interface development, using frameworks such as Jersey
  • In-depth familiarity with tools for source control (Git), builds (Maven) and issue tracking (Jira)
  • Experience with AWS, Druid, and other cloud technologies is a plus
  • Ability to understand and develop intelligent object-oriented design structures

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience developing web-services on the Dropwizard framework
  • Experience designing and developing single-page applications using AngularJS and/or Angular
  • Experience writing code to interface with external services such as open authentication
  • Working knowledge of Postman and/or other tools to test web applications

Some travel may be required.

The Oakland, CA base salary range for this full-time position is $130-150k. Our salary ranges are determined by role, career level, and location. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Legal Counsel

Quincy Data and McKay Brothers are seeking an associate-level attorney to join our in-house legal team. We are a profitable, industry-leading fintech firm serving banks, hedge funds and trading firms.

The role presents a unique opportunity to take on a wide variety of projects and responsibilities, with mentorship from our experienced in-house team as well as our cadre of exceptional external counsel. You will also work closely with our business teams, predominantly in Oakland - including client services, finance, business development, and marketing.

Our global in-house legal team is geographically dispersed (from base offices in Oakland and Paris) but works closely together. Your ability to work independently but cohesively with the remote legal team is essential. The Company's geographic reach includes the major financial exchanges in US, Canada, Europe, UK, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, PRC, and India, and is continually expanding.

This position is based in our Oakland office and requires at least 3 days/week working in the office.

Your primary responsibilities will be:

  • Drafting and reviewing client service agreements, licensing agreements, vendor agreements, and non-disclosure agreements;
  • Providing practical legal advice and support on business matters to the Company's sales, development, engineering, and management teams;
  • Managing US corporate governance compliance and maintaining/updating intercompany agreements; and
  • Collaborating with the legal team and company management on various special projects.

You will have:

  • JD degree from an ABA-accredited law school or international equivalent.
  • Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California or eligibility for registered in-house counsel status.
  • 4+ years of practicing legal experience, preferably with a mix of law firm and in-house experience.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and a keen eye for detail.
  • Sound, fundamental writing and analytic skills - you must be able to draft from scratch and review boilerplate language with precision.
  • Industry experience in telecommunications, financial exchange operations, trading and/or market data distribution is a plus, as is experience in the international markets we serve.
  • Technical fluency with Salesforce and automating templates is another plus.
Sales Engineer

McKay/Quincy is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Market Data and Low Latency Networking Sales Engineer with specialized experience in financial markets and real-time market data. The ideal candidate will possess a robust technical background in telecommunications and low latency networking, coupled with a deep understanding of the financial industry's requirements for low latency real-time data solutions.

This new full-time Sales Engineering role covers ultra-low latency telecom services, low latency multicast market data distribution, and service delivery. This role includes engaging with clients and prospects to understand their needs and ensuring seamless integration of market data and low latency networking services that enhance the performance of McKay's client's financial market operations. You will report to the Director of Client Services and Sales Engineering Team Leader, and work closely with our sales team and sales agents. This role will be based out of our Oakland headquarters; we will consider remote candidates in Chicago or New York.

The position requires extremely strong technical aptitudes, specialized understanding of financial markets, mastery of the company's product suite, and well-honed interpersonal skills. You will need to listen, analyze, engage, and ultimately deliver clear and accurate directives for onboarding new clients and existing clients to new services

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Engage with clients at banks, HFTs, and other trading firms to understand their market data and low latency networking needs.
  • Support integration of McKay products and services into client's customized market data and low latency networking infrastructures that support high-frequency trading, real-time market data distribution, and ultra-low-latency communication.
  • Provide technical expertise and support throughout the sales process, from initial consultation to post-sale implementation and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including product development, network engineering, and customer support, to ensure seamless delivery and integration of solutions.
  • Conduct Q & A sessions and technical presentations for clients.
  • Contribute to product specific user documentation and FAQs.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers within client organizations.

Ongoing responsibilities:

  • Analyze and communicate the impact of internal changes, regulatory changes, changing financial markets conditions to affected subscribers.
  • Support client's questions and ideas when their requirements or use cases change.
  • Remain current on the latest industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory requirements in both telecom and financial markets.
  • Maintain awareness and information of competitive solutions.
  • Participate in industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events to promote the company's expertise and solutions.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications (CFA, FRM) are a plus.
  • 3+ years of progressive sales engineering or similar experience in fintech or financial services.
  • Specialized knowledge of financial markets, including an intermediate knowledge of financial instruments, market participant behavior, and trading strategies.
  • Familiarity with low latency networking solutions and market data feeds.
  • Understanding of layer 1 and layer 2 networking concepts including raw Ethernet, and UDP multicast.
  • Mastery of office productivity suite, MS Office, Google.
  • Working familiarity, if not mastery, of project management, CRM, data retrieval.
  • Excellent analytical and computer skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and team leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Out-of-the-box thinking when analyzing problems.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills, as well as the ability to reassess priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate in French is a plus, but not a requirement.
